My Dad's tuna salad.

When I was 19 yo undergrad, and would come home drunk at 4 AM, and wake up 1:00 PM with a stinking hangover, my British father would make me a simple tuna salad sandwich and a cup of tea, and I would feel instantly better.

My Dad is gone now, but that is and was the best sandwich(es) I ever had. Thanks Dad.

i dont have a favorite but i would like if places

1. baked their own bread--obviously this is a huge + and scales really well and people dont have time to do it at home. i actually really like it when the guinea delis rip the breading out of the bread so its not so bready and use it to make breadcrumbs and shit then stuff the sandwich with whatever.

2. braised their own meats like the jew delis--this is a huge plus for stuff like corned beef/pastrami/brisket which people again arent going to do at home

3. roast beef is one of my favorites it doesnt have to be house made but great if it is. i even like the packaged stuff like boars head so whatever

4. turkey clubs are one of my favorites too and again i dont care if its store bought because that stuff is fine for a sandwich.

5. cheese a moron could handle and if you cant figure this out as a sandwich shop owner you should be killed

6. chop your own lettuce because people dont have heads of lettuce at home. also you can add vinegar and stuff and pickle it.

7. all the other toppings a moron could handle.

some of this stuff is work and some of it is just dumb and simple. i fucking hate places like subway.

Baking good bread is not rocket science but it's not easy to do consistently. Better to get it fresh each day from a local bakery.

Enjoy your Sysco braised beef.

I had an open faced turkey sandwich at that famous NYC place, can’t remember the name and don’t care. Overall though, a sandwich is just deli meat and bread - you can buy that at a grocer and make the best sandwich you’ve ever had.

I used to be in the Reuben camp too but I've evolved, I think a hot Cuban sandwich might be the perfect sandwich - ham, roast pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard, hot and toasted - if God was making the perfect sandwich in a lab, I think he would make a hot Cuban sandwich

When I was a teenager you used to be able to go into Wawa’s and order a 2’ Hoagie, load it up with the Italian deli slices and cheese and peppers and onions and oil and vinegar. They gave it to you in a box. I housed quite a few of those on those cool Central Pennsylvania evenings after getting off work. I’ll never forget.

Wawa’s is a shadow of its former self. They sold out and are much more like Sheetz now. Buccee’s doesn’t even come close.
