Because the purpose of holding PMs has always been to prepare for a true apocalypse situation (currency becomes worthless, internet is dead so crypto is unusuable, lead + food + sex + PMs are all that have value) or to survive a full societal collapse (you need to GTFO ASAP and you can bribe your way out with some bars and/or take them with you discreetly so you're not completely penniless when you get to your destination or true Weimar-level hyperinflation hits). Aside from "ooo looks pretty me wear it" for gold, and silver's various industrial use cases which have only really arisen in the last 200 years, those situations have always been the *real* investment value of PMs.

Outside of the scenarios I just outlined above -- all of which could happen and you should prepare for, but none of which are "likely" to happen to any given person in any given country in any given generation -- people haven't historically gotten rich from speculatively investing in PMs.
