This reinforces existing beliefs and inoculates audiences against outside information. Once that feedback loop is in place, facts that contradict the narrative get framed as “liberal propaganda.”
Distrust of Institutions: Since at least the 1970s, conservative leaders have built political capital by attacking elites and experts — from the “liberal media” to the “deep state” to universities. Over time, this cultivated a cultural stance of distrust toward authority and expertise itself. So even when accurate information is available, it’s discounted if it comes from distrusted sources (scientists, journalists, bureaucrats). |
