Do you really not get how KE works? It’s been like this for decades. These are all rising 7th year associates who they give the partner title to. They’ll make less money next year than their peers at other firms while they pay taxes on a K-1 and are billed out at $1,300 an hour.

yea this sounds horrid. when i was at an unprestigious biglaw firm in dc, a guy who'd left the firm just before i joined went over to KE. he made "partner" and then 1-2 years after that went to seyfarth (even less prestigious than my firm). i know a couple associates there and he's apparently a psycopath piece of shit. bigtime gunner, but even he couldn't hack it at KE. it sounds awful.

dc should be mellower than nyc

but yeah why would anyone consider kirkland or latham a v5?

this is as ridiculous as us news claiming jhu is t10 or w/e

Are these guys even equity partners who’ll get put on K-1s (and buy their own insurance and all that mess)? Or do they just get the title (and get billed at new inflated rates) but they’re still really W-2 employees for a few more years while they get their “look” at real partner

They don't get K-1s, you can tell a "real" Kirkland partner when he gets a PC next to his name.

GayGPT went thru the names and jfc 36% are NOWAG/NOWIG, just lol Birdshits

Result — estimated distribution (200 names)

Origin category Count (of 200) Percent

Anglo / Western European (English, Scottish, Irish, French, German, Dutch, etc.) 84 42.0%

East Asian (Chinese, Korean, Japanese, etc.) 38 19.0%

South Asian (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan) 34 17.0%

Other Europe / Mediterranean (Italian, Greek, Portuguese, etc.) 10 5.0%

Eastern European / Slavic / Balkan 7 3.5%

Hispanic / Latino 6 3.0%

Middle Eastern / Arabic / North African 6 3.0%

African / Nigerian / Sub-Saharan 3 1.5%

Ambiguous / Mixed / Couldn’t confidently classify 12 6.0%

Total 200 100.0%

Quick interpretation

The single largest group appears to be Anglo/Western European-origin surnames (~42%) — expected for a global US-headquartered firm with many UK/US partners.

East Asian (mainly Chinese, Korean) and South Asian names together make up a large minority (~36% combined), reflecting strong representation of Asian-origin lawyers in international firms.

Smaller shares come from Eastern Europe, Middle East, Hispanic, and African-origin names.

~6% are genuinely ambiguous from the name alone (e.g., names that could plausibly be from multiple regions, rare or modern hybrid names).

Honestly surprised it didn't balk at determining ethnicity by surname.
