Some firms push people out at 65, but many do not. Most older lawyers I know are actually targeting exits around 72-75, not in their 60s at all. Even if pushed out by their firms, these people do consulting or they open up solo practices and work when they want, sometimes more than what they were doing in the firms.
Boomers born in ‘60 turn 65 this year, Boomers born in ‘64 don’t even qualify for Social Security yet. They are all very active and will be for the next 5-10 years.
Boomer numbers in the workforce has dropped precipitously from 2010, but this is still going on. Many boomers are still working. By 2030, the story won’t be about boomers retiring anymore, it’ll be about Boomers dying.
