For Keeps (1988)
So, the actual 30th Anniversary of this film was actually a week ago on the 15th. But I was pretty jammed up with Anniversaries on that day, so today will have to do. Another film that was directed by the late John G. Avildsen. Was this was best film that I’ve seen about teen pregnancy before? Probably not. It’s ultimately some pretty lightweight stuff but it at least has its heart in the right place. And Molly Ringwald’s mother in this is played by Miriam Flynn, who played Cousin Catherine in the Vacation films. Naturally for a film that is OVER 30 years old now, there are a bunch of people gone, including the late Kenneth Mars, who I will always think of as Inspector Kemp in Young Frankenstein. Is there a bunch of heavy handed drama in this? Sure. But everthing ultimately works out in the end, so I’m not bust my balls too much over it!

18 Again! (1988)
A body swap movie with a slightly unnerving subtext, where the car accident that puts an 81-year-old George Burns into the body of his 18-year-old grandson nearly kills Burns’ body, trapping the grandson’s soul in his grandfather’s comatose form. The old guy gets to be young again, but he feels absolutely no guilt or regret about accidentally dooming his grandson to an endless vegetative state and possibly death. After 20 minutes, he seems to forget about him completely! Oh well; it’s sort of fun to watch a college kids dress and talk like George Burns.

Lost Angels (1989)
Adam Horovitz of The Beastie Boys plays a troubled young man whom after getting caught up in a gang fight and in possession of a gun ends up getting committed to an involuntary stay at a mental hospital where he's forced to participate in group therapy and gets into a one on one relationship with an alcoholic doctor played by Donald Sutherland who kinda sorta has the Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting role here tho their relationship isn't the center of the film tho it might've been a better film if it had been cause this is kinda sorta structureless for the most part as a narrative. Pauly Shore appears for a second as Kid #3.

Wedding Band (1989)
I reckon they wrote this for Huey Lewis and the News then couldn't get them. So we have this rambling, disjointed rom-com about a low-rent Huey Lewis and the News-esque band that plays at weddings, with a young Pauly Shore doing a terrible job of miming playing bass. I have no idea what's going on here and it's tough to imagine caring.

Dream Date (1989)
Dream Date is a screwball comedy where an over protective Dad spies on his daughter during a date. It's fairly broad, but the writing is strong, and the performances are good. Honestly, this is way better than it should be.
Clearly The Weasel had gotten popular around this time, as he is barely in the film, but he makes the poster. Still, his brief appearance is one of the funnier gags in the film, with him thinking that his locker is possessed by the devil.

Phantom of the Mall: Eric’s Revenge (1989)
Phantom of the Mall: Eric’s Revenge is an entertaining 80's horror take on The Phantom of the Opera, with some campy scenes, gory kills and an extremely ridiculous theme song.
What was interesting about Phantom of the Mall, was that at times it played step by step to your everyday slasher film, but then showcased some martial arts action before kind of going off the rails completely. The weakest part of the film is definitely the last act, but Pauly Shore rides a motorcycle through the mall and saves the day, so it can’t be all that bad.

Encino Man (1992)
Encino Man is top tier 90s nonsense. I'm always surprised by how hilarious it is after all these years. By taking an absolutely ridiculous premise and committing to it with every morsel of zany 90s energy it has, Encino Man unleashes a gnarly time capsule of pure shenanigans and entertainment.
"All you like is nugs, chillage and grindage!"
We have Pauly Shore acting like a complete maniac riding his little moped around and saying things like "If you're edged cause I'm weazin' all your grindage just chill." Brendan Fraser's over the top caveman performance is just as silly as it is mesmerizing. That "I'm Too Sexy" montage could be placed in a museum of important 90s cultural moments. To be studied by future populations wishing to understand our past.
A summertime staple for the whole family!

Class Act (1992)
Breezy fun 90s comedy with a very fun premise and killer soundtrack. The last act of this film has one of the most fun locations of any 90s comedy out there. Completely caught off guard by the Pauly Shore cameo and now am wondering if this is set in the same universe as ENCINO MAN.
