Yes, especially if you buy on the internet and have it shipped to a dealer.

He should be able to get a good, used glock for $500-$600. $650 is in the ballpark of msrp for a new glock, and if you are willing to put in some time, new guns can still be had for msrp.

new guns are very difficult to find in 9mm, you can still get a .40, but not a 9 without a shitload of luck

Definitely difficult, but not impossible, to find new 9s. I think the complete lack of 9 mm ammo is starting to depress the sales of new 9s. I was at my local Cabelas over the weekend, and they had am ok selection of new 9s, but of course no 9 mm ammo.

Absolutely. Just tried to find the scholarly economics article explaining that used cars are SPS because of the information asymmetry between the person selling the the used car and the buyer.

to be fair, a glock is not a used car, it will run forever unless it's broken in half, and glock really does have a lifetime warranty and they will fix any gun, even old police trade ins

all I've heard about are failures to eject which was an issue with using the same double spring on the guide rod as they did for the .40's, which has been fixed

Failure to eject is the main problem I'm aware of, but I thought they were having some other issues too. I don't own any Glocks so I don't keep up with what's going on, but with that said, I still believe buying used is generally a bad idea unless you are saving a lot of money. Dealing with a lemon handgun is a pain in the fucking ass.
