I had an arbitration scheduled for Thursday in Providence that got postponed yesterday around 1 pm. I drove my rental car from there to Philly to see Morrissey then drove home. Returning car today.

He played a 180 set but the crowd was awful. Very subdued. Myself included.

I’m you guys have lots of questions. Ask away!

highlights were:

Lost (Maladjusted-era b-side - super deep cut. i know it well, but nobody did and after it ended he said "yeah, yeah, i know nobody knows that one"

The Loop (fairly well known single from like 1991 when he was entering his rockabilly phase)

Jack the Ripper (180 and very well known single from 1991-92 i think)

I Won't Share You (off Smiths' Strangeways Here We Come - allegedly about his gay obsession with Johnny Marr)

Alma Matters - very well known album track off Maladjusted, but it's such a good song that seeing him do it reminded me of how great that album is. i first saw him on the Maladjusted tour and that brings back great memories. he was 38 then and i thought "wow, how's he still doing this at that old age, i wonder if he'll retire soon" lmao.

he did a total of 7 songs (out of 19). the setlist was overall wonderful. i tuned out around "you are the quarry" in 2004 (i bought that one, listened a few times and was like nah this is the same shit, i'm good). he did only 4 post-quarry songs, which i liked. he knows what his great material is and focuses on that.

i have to say, his performances are always great, but i think because the audience was so muted, this one seemed a bit blah. also should point out that it was a seated venue. i think that makes a difference. and i was way up in the nosebleeds (venue isn't massive, but was still far away).

i've seen him 11-12 times by now - several on the 1997 Maladjusted tour, 2-3 times in 2000 when he did a tour between albums, once in 2013, once in 2018 and last night. i have to say last night was the most underwhelming performance. still good tho.

180. jack the ripper is one of his best tunes live.

looking at the setlist makes me want to see him on this tour. played my two favorites off ringleader of the tormentors which was from 06, the album after you are the quarry.

encore of i wont share you and irish blood english heart is also 180

yea agreed all around. go see him if you can.

honestly, the fucker cancels so much and he's like 66 now,. not sure how long he will continue. go see him while you can.

his between-album tours have always been great. i love maladjusted now, but at the time it was just the new album. he's always, always played exactly 18 or 19 songs and like 6 were from maladjusted. i was like come on bro, wtf.

when i saw him in 2000, he played shit tons of bona drag/your arsenal shit. was 180.

edit: here is the setlist from my first morrissey show - i was almost dead on re Maladjusted songs (he played 7): https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/morrissey/1997/orpheum-theatre-boston-ma-5bd7d798.html

i'd blow my dad again to see him play this set again, and i basically saw him play it like 7 times this tour. i followed him around the east coast on both legs.

180. if you saw him in boston that tour, you definitely were.

i got my ex gf to drive me and my friend up there and we smoked a joint in an alley just beforehand and i was tripped out sitting in an opera house high as shit about to see a guy i literally idolized and worshipped. then he played an amazing set.

we drove up another guy (the hc singer referenced below), and instead of going to moz, he went to the Rat to a hardcore show (i think madball and a bunch of other mosh bands played). we went to get him after.

I haven't seen Moz in about 15 years. What's the crowd breakdown now between:

-Mexicans

-OG fans from 80s

-Gays

-Millennials

-Zoomers

Do people still try to bum-rush the stage?

didnt notice mexicans, so that phenom might be over, but i think that was always more west coast anyway.

got there just before he went on so didn't people watch, but i really get the impression the place was full of casual fans. even the morrissey chant someone tried to start was wrong. it wasn't "MORRISEY, MORRISSEY - MORISEEEEEEEEY" in the soccer style. they jsut were chanting morrissey.

looked like lots of older gen x people, but not sure of zoomer attendance.

zero attempt to rush the stage, shocking. never seen that before. in 2018 in dc, several people got up there. surprising to see nobody even try.

in 1997 i saw him at hammerstein ballroom in nyc and my friend (well known hardcore scene singer) got onto the stage and security beat on him. morrissey stopped the show and chanted "bad man! bad man!" and pointed at the security guy and refused to go on until the security guy was removed from the building.

180. The Smiths bootleg "Thank Your Lucky Stars" has a great version of I Know It's Over with Morrissey yelling at the Irvine Meadows security in the middle of the song.
