there's a few kinds.
there's the one you order and they send directly to your door. a real hit or miss, you really don't know what they look like. probably not worth it.
then there are soapland girls. you can look at the store's catalog before choosing, but lots of extra charges and not too much privacy as it's basically a bunch of stalls.
then there's these red light districts like Tobita Shinchi where they sit there and wave and smile at you. you can see what you're getting before committing, which helps a lot. still very sad, but probably the best of the three.

In Japan’s sex industry, particularly in areas like soaplands, hostess clubs, or other regulated establishments, some businesses or individual workers may refuse service to foreigners.
This can happen for a few reasons: language barriers (many workers prefer clients they can communicate with easily), cultural misunderstandings, or concerns about legal issues (since sex work operates in a gray area under Japanese law). Some establishments also cater exclusively to local clientele to maintain a certain atmosphere or avoid complications.
However, this isn’t a blanket rule. Many sex workers and establishments in Japan, especially in urban areas like Tokyo or Osaka, are open to foreigners, particularly in districts known for international clientele, like Kabukicho. There are even services that specifically market to foreign tourists.
Online forums and posts on platforms like X often exaggerate the "no foreigners" stance, with some users claiming it’s widespread based on personal rejections, while others report no issues. Data is scarce, but a 2019 thread on a Japan travel forum suggested that while some workers refuse foreigners, it’s more about specific venues or individuals than the industry as a whole.
Some reports on platforms like Reddit or X mention that certain workers or venues may prefer clients from specific regions (e.g., favoring white Westerners or other Asians over South Asians or Black clients) due to stereotypes about behavior, cleanliness, or desirability. This isn’t universal but comes up in discussions about places like Yoshiwara in Tokyo.
