If you don't get and stay sober then you'll lose her for sure. You have to do this for yourself and no one else.
I'm not saying don't do the couples counseling, but you need to put sobriety over and ahead of every single other part of your life. Anything you put in front of sobriety will be one of the things you lose.
There's no reason to white knuckle it when there is a solution. AA saved my life (and many other poasters). Not only did it save my life, it made my life amazing. If you get with the program and stay sober you'll look back on today six months or a year from now and wonder how the hell you ever lived like this. |

Eventually the alcoholic starts thinking about drinking more. Then there's the physical compulsion to keep drinking more after having one. End stage is when you go into withdrawal and need it as medicine to feel normal. |

I went to a restaurant for dinner where they know me & before I could say, “club soda” they were already bringing me a light beer. So I did drink that one & then got club soda.
I’m not too upset about one 4 percent beer setting anything back.
So I’m on the right path. Super dehydrated though. I think that’s from Kava I had been taking in July as well as a cold I have. |

I was drinking at least a fifth a day most of the time probably a little more (a little less on weekends due to family stuff etc). I'd have plenty of days where I'd drink way more than a fifth but about a fifth a day or the equivalent in wine or beer is probably the most common.
Biglaw stress is what started me on this path to some extent. |

Consider going to an AA meeting and introduce yourself and think about working the steps. Oftentimes people will come in like yourself who can't get more than a few months with self-will and they're amazed how easy it becomes once you ask for help, live in gratitude and get emotionally sober.
I'm coming up three years and it changed my life. It's insane how much better things are now than what they were. |

i'd go weeks without drinking, then get on bad 7-14 day binges, rinse repeat.
i was basically drunk for all of july, which is a bad month for me mentally.
haven't had a drink since aug 1. feeling much better. exercising like a fiend. but it's a constant struggle to avoid relapsing due to boredom or stress. |

Date: April 7th, 2023 8:49 PM Author: insecure resort pistol I had around 100 days sober & then, in typical Dr. Thunder fashion, I got burned out from the repetitive cycle of the mindless drudgery of work followed by hours of repetitive boring IOP. Almost every. Single. Day.
So one day I said, “What the fuck is the point of all of this?”
(I don’t exactly feel like I have any purpose in life other than corporate slavery to Jews.)
So I took my laptop to a bar & ordered a beer.
This, of course, initiated a month of essentially non-stop drinking (beer, not liquor). I ended up detoxing, immediately relapsing, & detoxing again.
I am back sober for the last ~10 days & have resumed exercising. |

i did have one relapse, which happened back in the beginning of may. my wife and i were not having sex and i am terrible at communicating so i withdrew into self and developed a huge crush on an associate (no diddy). went to jazz fest to see the stones with my siblings and got shitfaced. wife went nuts on me when i got back to the room and i told her to fuck off and i wanted a divorce.
long story short, i told her that the sex has been garbage, and that i was disgusted that she'd quit shaving her box back when we split up in 2020 and didn't really do it anymore.
since then, she's been SHAVED, we've been FUCKING 2-3x/week and i am NODRINK forever. |
