At least 60 girls from NJ's graduating HS class will play D1 soccer.

Many more will also play D2 and D3. Basically, NJ has some of the absolute highest level youth soccer academies and for most of these girls, playing in college and getting a scholarship is a real possibility. |

There is a huge drop off in the quality between top level, elite players and everyone else.
With the boys, the top players from age 8 on are outrageously good. But even 5 levels below, there are good players and it's the same game but a different level.
On the girls' side, the highest leagues play with the same sophistication as the boys though at a slower pace. Mid tier and below it might as well be retards chasing butterflies in a field. You don't really have to be an elite player to be on a D3 team.

They were some of the top female players in the country. That said, if you try to say that female players have no "spatial awareness or tactical moves," you were not watching the top level of competition. Like I said, the top female players can launch a fucking header that will land at their teammate's feet 10-15 yards away. You can't attribute that to slower defenders. Plus the "kick a long ball and hope your forwards can outrun the defense" strategy does not work nearly as well in the women's game because they can't kick the ball as far, so there is much more emphasis on passing and ball control. So for her, let's say it's $15k for 10 years or $150k.

Private clubs barely existed back in the day. It was all [town name] soccer club. even the best kids who went on to play in college played for these teams.
It was only in the late 90s/early 2000s that non-town associated clubs started popping up. In NJ at least, some of them are still around and e.g. PDA est.in 1998 and Matchfit est. 2001.
Now it's all private academies. Football Academy in NJ was established like 3 years ago and already got accepted into the MLS Next. |
