That’s up from a total of 2,377 last year, and is the highest on record, which has been increasing every year since the first cycle, which had only 1,173 proposals. So they'll let you aim the telescope and take a picture with it, but the rest is on you. JWST ain't payin the grad student stipends to analyze the results. And it's not giving telescope access to anyone who doesn't have that already covered. Why would the JWST folks let bums use their telescope? |

Looks like these observatories have a leg up in that they don't need shit except telescope access. If your PhD program doesn't guarantee funding there's no reason to think you'll make it 10 years OR get a jerb with the degree.
