I used to be at one of them and lateralled to biglaw. They're inconsistent. One office will have really good lawyers and another will be filled with ttt retards. This is because the business model is to have offices all over the place. They often do this by merging with small firms and proper due diligence isn't always performed.
They're doing more and more insurance defense. This didn't affect me much because I do traditional labor but I think it's going to affect the overall reputation of the firms.
The pay isn't great. At the firm I was at, I was close to partnership and made under 200. My firm also capped nonequity partners at 250 and it's nearly impossible to make equity there. Huge reason I left.
