Had a really sad Doordash tonight

Ordinarily I would have declined the offer, but I had to take it because my acceptance rate was flirting with a threshold that Doordash wants dashers to maintain. So I took the offer, and it turned out to be picking up some fever reducing meds for a kid and delivering to a shabby house.
So at the outset I was upset with the crappy offer but after I delivered it I felt better about things. At least I helped out a struggling mom with a sick kid.
Today I delivered to this woman again. What did mom order this time? Vodka and THC gummies.
Trouble is, she didn't have her ID. So I cannot give this stuff to her. Even though she's clearly over 21, I need to take a picture of an ID in order to complete the delivery in the app. So she starts having her kids hand me cash to get me to stick around until her mom shows up with a valid ID. After 15 minutes Grandma shows up with an ID.
The whole thing was sad as fuck. Mom had clearly been drinking already by the time I show up. They definitely didn't have much money. And it's really something that she didn't have money to tip when her kid was sick, but she does have money to tip for liquor and drugs. |

This time she sent one of her kids to the door with her ID. I told the kid, I can't do this, this isn't your ID, you don't look 21, I need to see the person who's ID this is as well as have them sign for it in the app on my phone.
She was refusing to come to the door because she didn't have any clothes on. I asked her to put clothes on. She didn't, but she did cover herself with a sheet. I could now see her but she was still refusing to come to the door and sign. So I had to give the kid my phone to shuttle it inside to the woman.
What a pain in the ass. Substance abuse is such a scourge, I feel so bad for this woman's kids. |

I have a hard time with that. If a person is drunk and is ordering more alcohol via Doordash, isn't that a good thing? The primary alternative is them getting in a car and going to a liquor store or bar.
I have a hard time envisioning a scenario where I wouldn't complete the delivery. As long as they can give me a valid ID and I can verify they are 21, they are getting their booze.
This woman has been such a pain in the ass though, I am debating just turning off alcohol deliveries. |
