Thought the part about extra dimensions was interesting. Their existence is a plausible explanation for dark matter and dark energy - cosmologists' calculations suggests that most of the universe is made up of matter and energy of a nature which is a complete mystery to us. Maybe we can't detect them because they are part of different dimensions.

i get that they didnt want to copy alien where the robot just looked human but i dont get the design. also dont get why the humans in alien or the humans in interstellar even sent humans in the first place instead of just sending omnipotent robots.

its been a while since i watched interstellar, but i felt like it alternated between scenes early on that didn't feel "epic" enough for the subject matter and other parts that were definitely overloaded with the "weepy sentimentality" that you mention.

it just felt all over the place emotionally and in execution and as is typical with nolan, he aimed really high and wasn't able to hit the mark.

the robot sidekick practically Ruined the movie. liek you can't have a high-concept physics-based movie with a quippy robot sidekick like it's a movie from the 80s, it is just too dissonant

I think we literally all did.

My wife HATES that movie, largely because she dislikes anne hathaway and hates her character. I'm a fan of Nolan but I've always assumed he hews closely to the regulatory minimum for women characters.

I liked the exact scene my wife hated, where hathaway goes on a weepy womanscreed about how Shouldn't Love Be What Guides Us to try out the planet where her FWB was instead of matt "the rat" damon's planet, and at the end mcconaughey is like "no honey, I think we should probably stick with rational decisionmaking".

I thought it was ambitious and visually impressive, but I'm someone who enjoys plot, and the plot is garbage.

IIRC, the resolution relies on "love" being powerful enough to be able to transcend time and space, but not powerful enough to do it in a way that makes sense - so they sent morse code through a watch...

You know its dumb because Neil Degrasse Tyson called it scientifically accurate.
