This post explores the divide between philosophically optimistic and pessimistic voices within the dissident space and discusses the personal and strategic implications of networking, audience size, and ideological alignment. It reflects on how optimists dominate reach due to hopeful messaging, while pessimists - often introverts with darker worldviews - pursue connection more for spiritual and intellectual growth. A map of writers across these spectrums is provided, offering insight into a fragmented but evolving ideological landscape.

Nietzsche wasn't a pessimist. Schopenhauer was, but Nietzsche was "responding" to Schopenhauer's thoughts on the "will".

In any case, actual pessimism has always been unpopular. And argumentum ad populum is the world's favorite fallacy.

Yes he was; they differed in *response* to the pessimism, not to the diagnosis.

The response is what makes someone a pessimist though - someone who adopts Schopenhauer's denial of the Will to Live is a pessimist but someone who opts for Nietzsche's Will to Power is an optimist. A nihilistic optimist perhaps, but an optimist nonetheless.

philosophical pessimism is that the base conditions of this world mean that one cannot be satisfied: humans are always either striving for an object or bored, nothing we do lasts, and existence is suffering. furthermore, it is an endless cornicopia of violence -- one must consume other living creatures in order to survive.

schopenhauer responded to this with ascetic withdrawal. nietzsche responded to it with will-to-power to try to *spite* underlying reality

I suppose you could consider that a sort of inverted pessimism, but it really isn't any different than how most humans live these days. Pretty much everyone is a nihilist with their own set of values and indulging in will-to-power. The ones that cry about "nihilism" in society are just uneducated about what that means.
