There was a prolonged period where all anyone did was dig tunnels, and both sides would end up fighting with pixaxes and explosives in these tunnels, with rotting corpses everywhere and no oxygen. The ottomans got too sick to fight, but people living in Vienna also got sick and died so that the city was almost depopulated when the fighting ended.
