New Mexico leaders call for investigation following emails referencing Epstein's ranch
WASHINGTON (TNND) — Leaders in New Mexico are calling for an investigation following claims in the Epstein files about the disgraced financiers ranch in the state.
The Department of Justice recently released millions of documents on Jeffrey Epstein and those he was associated with or in contact with. He was convicted of sex trafficking minors in 2019.
Epstein had a ranch in New Mexico called Zorro Ranch and in one email released by the DOJ, it claims that a former staffer at the ranch had information about two women who were allegedly killed and buried at the ranch.
New Mexico Land Commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richard called on the DOJ and the New Mexico Department of Justice to investigate claims in the emails.
“I’m horrified when I learned something new, especially when I learned that state land could have been used, could have been involved in some of these monstrous activities,” she said, according to a local New Mexico news outlet.
James Grayson, the Chief Deputy Attorney General for the New Mexico Department of Justice, said that the claims appear to be unsubstantiated, but they will work to obtain the unredacted email, as the name of the receiver of the email is not shown.
“As we understand it, the allegations appear to be unsubstantiated and stem from an anonymous individual referencing events that purportedly occurred more than six years ago,” Grayson said. “We will work to obtain the original, unredacted emails and any underlying files, as access to complete and authentic materials is critical to our assessment and planning. These circumstances raise significant concerns regarding the reliability, authenticity, and credibility of the claims. Notwithstanding those concerns, we are prepared to review and assess any verifiable information should it be provided through appropriate and lawful means.”
New Mexico Democratic Rep. Melanie Stansbury said in a recorded video that there are still lots of unanswered questions about Zorro Ranch.
“So there’s a lot of unanswered questions about Zorro Ranch in New Mexico, what went down there, why it was not fully investigated, why people were not held accountable, and frankly, as a New Mexican You know, to anyone who was hurt there, I just, my heart goes out to you,” she said. “The miscarriage of justice in this case is just stunning, appalling, disgusting.”
