Poppy Formerly Seattle Oct. 2 I recall a taxi ride in Amsterdam about 20 years ago. The cab driver was a very outspoken guy who was railing against the “invasion” of immigrants that were overrunning his city. Being a good liberal, I dismissed the guy as a right wing crackpot, but kept my thoughts to myself. Today, Amsterdam, Paris, Brussels, London, Vienna, and many other European cities are struggling with all manner of social dysfunction. Crime and homelessness are up, public services are overburdened, social cohesion is degraded, etc. Liberal immigration policies and general incompetence have badly eroded European culture and society. No wonder citizens are looking for ways to reverse the error and clean up the mess.

Having been there multiple times, including during the pandemic, and having just passed through on my way to France last month, it's truly shocking to see the decay only getting worse.... At least in the 25 years I've lived in Holland. (Expat here)
Perhaps there is something as being too diverse? Although I'm politically left, I've felt often times exploring the city that I'm not in a Western European City, and the 45 percent of the population coming from other countries doesn't surprise me at all. There's a reason the Flemish half consistently votes for far right candidates.
Look at Holland and our own right wing government. People are feeling overwhelmed by foreigners in their own country. The inconvenient truth is that it's the not Western backgrounds that are driving people to conservative viewpoints.
Are you rascist because you don't like having so many citizens who are from non Western countries? Is there something wrong with wanting to preserve a balance?
The handwriting is on the wall. People have had enough.
