Will be carrying two mortgages, and more importantly taxes and utilities for two homes through summer, until I can get my primary home sold. Cost of movers alone is like $4,000. I don’t even know what I am doing anymore. We spend more than $3800/month just on daycare so my wife can work, but one more will start school next year so that will be a savings. Basically just need to sell current house as fast as possible. This makes us kindred spirits in a way because my current home in a bad town is basically like the SS HELLOSIR. I will never escape to a land of juice and lizards. I am in it for the long haul. We won’t be done with kids in school until the 2040s. |

(in fact, for most of the kids' lives, up until a year ago, i was a partner in biglaw so the health insurance was insane - i'd have had to pay the entire amount since i was also the "employer" myself).
so my wife has kept working mainly bc her job provides really good health insurance and the whole family is covered for like $300 a month. plus she maxes out 401k and gets a 9% match. but apart from that, she was more or less working for not a whole lot of take home pay. |

I think she just covers the kids with a high deductible plan and we are paying at least $650-$750/month in premiums for that. She doesn't get any match, and her employer-sponsored 457(b) is very expensive (probably the add on fees nearly mitigate any tax benefit from being able to defer income, but I earn a bit more and the benefits increase as your marginal rates increase so maybe a little bit of a bump). My wife is also earning credits towards a lulzy pension thing that will probably be insolvent and defunct 10+ years before we are ready to hang up the workshirts in 40+ years in our late 70s. |
