Yeah there was the internet, but people envisioned a lot of the stuff we have now since the 70s, it just took a while for computing/Moore's law to catch up so Screens really could be available everywhere.
LLMs, regardless of whether the current hype cycle turns out to be a complete bust or not, have shown people that it's not some insurmountable fantasy to end up in a Wall-E style world where AI and robots run shit, and more importantly this may happen in a relatively short span of time. We won't have a century to adjust or whatever. There's a real chance it happens within our lives, and when it does shit is going to get really strange really quickly. |
