Pregnant Detroit rapper identified as woman fatally shot in Atlanta
The family of Qualeisha Barnes says she was shot in the face four times while in her car on Springside Place SE early Wednesday morning.
ATLANTA — The family of Qualeisha Barnes is grieving an unimaginable loss after the young woman was shot and killed, while also 14 weeks pregnant, according to her mother.
Barnes, known to many by her stage name "Siditty," is being remembered by loved ones not for her music persona, but for who she was at home: a daughter, a sister, and a source of joy.
"I know her as Qualeisha. I know her as LeLe. I know her as we, in the same house, in the same bed. That's what I know her as. All that friend stuff, I don't care about none of that. That was my sister. That was my baby," said Shatara Davis, Barnes' sister.
As the family joined hands in prayer, they leaned on their faith for strength while trying to process what they describe as a senseless killing. They say it's memories—like videos of Barnes laughing and joking—that are helping them cope.
"Generally, if you met LeLe, you instantly loved her and she was such a jokester. She liked to laugh, and she was always cracking jokes on me," said her mother, Francine Lopez-Stewart.
Lopez-Stewart said her daughter's stage name reflected her personality.
"She loved makeup. She loved dressing up. She loved beauty. She was siditty," Lopez-Stewart said.
But beyond music and personality, Barnes was working toward a future in healthcare. Her mother said she was an aspiring nurse.
"She made the dean's list. She had like two more semesters to go. She was so proud of herself, and we were so proud of her,” Lopez-Stewart said.
Now, the family is focused on seeking justice. Lopez-Stewart believes more than one person may be responsible for her daughter's death and wants accountability for anyone involved.
"If you instigate something that causes a murder, then you need some kind of, I mean, you need something. I think you need to go to jail too," she said.
According to the family, Barnes had lived in metro Atlanta for about a decade.
As for who may be responsible, Atlanta police say the investigation remains ongoing.
