At one point it genuinely had some useful and honest information, a lot of which would be only shared through informal channels.

Now it’s just a cesspit to that talks more about culture war grievances than academic economics. The amount of open sexism and racism there was just noxious.

This is not an unpopular opinion, it's exactly the problem. Of course there was useful information on EJMR, everyone knows that. But to get to it (in later years), you had to wade through an enormous amount of absolutely vile racism and misogyny. If you're a person in one of the targeted categories, that absolutely takes a toll on you, to the point where many of us couldn't bear to look at it, even if we wanted to. The important knowledge you're mentioning is therefore once again limited to certain people -- by design, since there are clearly examples of anonymized discourse with moderation of that kind of content.
