jfc, this is infuriating. John Ioannidis was an esteemed scientist whose particular expertise included the study of how scientific crowds get things wrong.
shortly after COVID arrived, he took some preliminary samples and offered an early estimate of the death rate of COVID of about 0.13 to 0.27 -- an incredibly accurate estimate. the final rate is now considered 0.05-0.15.

he was excoriated by a mob of politically motivated scientists in group think mode.
now we finally find out that in Fauci's private diary he estimated COVID-19's case fatality rate at 0.2-0.3% in February 2020.
weeks later, he told Congress under oath that the virus had a higher mortality rate. and when Trump publicly said that he suspected the death rate would be much lower than the 0.35% the WHO published, everyone dumped on Trump.

he showed early on that COVID killed the elderly in numbers not too much worse than bad flus and that COVID's death rate for younger people was very low. he got trashed for it.
====
Data Synthesis Twenty-three seroprevalence surveys representing 14 countries were included. Across all countries, the median IFR in community-dwelling elderly and elderly overall was 2.4% (range 0.3%-7.2%) and 5.5% (range 0.3%-12.1%). IFR was higher with larger proportions of people >85 years. Younger age strata had low IFR values (median 0.0027%, 0.014%, 0.031%, 0.082%, 0.27%, and 0.59%, at 0-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60-69 years).
