I do enjoy watching shows, but i used to watch a lot more because it was fun to argue and discuss them with people. You could have a mutual culture and humorous references based on those shows and movies.
If you're at work, you could be like "Talking to XYZ associate is like talking to Zoolander. You can explain it to him for 20 minutes and at the end he's like 'but why male models?"
Movies and show just don't hold the same place in the culture anymore, and for that reason, myself and others don't invest time in them - and it spirals downward. |

And no one wants to discuss them anymore because we're also not allowed to be honest in public life either out of fear of being judged. So we just stopped reading or watching.
Every now and then I see something made before 2010, especially 2005, or read a book from the 1990s, and it's an explosion of amazement in realizing how we were encouraged to be thoughtful and edgy and push the envelopes in talking about people and social observations and exploring characters. Then you're briefly sad at what has been lost. |
