Serious question: why does the foreign policy establishment love war?

Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes; and armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few. In war, too, the discretionary power of the Executive is extended; its influence in dealing out offices, honors, and emoluments is multiplied; and all the means of seducing the minds, are added to those of subduing the force, of the people. The same malignant aspect in republicanism may be traced in the inequality of fortunes, and the opportunities of fraud, growing out of a state of war, and in the degeneracy of manners and of morals engendered by both. No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare.
–James Madison, Political Observations, Apr. 20, 1795 in: Letters and Other Writings of James Madison, vol. 4, p. 491 (1865)

Can you imagine being Secretary of State and never getting to negotiate trade deals or see foreign heads of state?
What about being Secretary of Education and being unable to meddle with education standards or college loans?

Sclerotic old faggots who want to feel 'important', have no other outlet; also money.
When ppl have prestige/ego tied up in some function, they want to exercise that function.
Same reason cops love to shoot their little tazars/guns at anything that moves.
The gross hypocrisy is that they never put themselves in harm's way.

a lot of the kristol-style neocons are of a certain age - their education/early careers were in the 70's, while their initial rise to prominence came under reagan. and this is where their views crystallized - it is always 1981, and america's enemies are always some species of USSR.
it's important to understand that they have basically NO CONCEPTION of what the US looks like or its social mood or its demographic composition today - they aren't concerned with that. they want to implement their grand strategies at any cost.
it's also important to understand that these people DO NOT see the 2003 iraq war as a failure. they see it as a stage within a larger war. syria is another stage; iran will be another. perhaps lebanon if the IDF gets tangled up in there again.
they also belong, for the most part, to the "money is fake bullshit numbers in computers" school of economics, which is why they feel no compunction about spending trillions on these grand projects. and to the extent that money is more than that, they are willing to gut domestic spending to keep their plans financed.
basically, they don't care about "america" per se; they mostly just want to use it like a cumrag, and they become very agitated and upset when their cumrag tries to protest its usage.

highly Cr.
Geopolitically, it is perpetually 1981
Demographically, their schema is perpetually c. 1964 ("WE CAN CONTINUALLY 'ASSIMILATE' A MASSIVE ALIEN THIRD-WORLD POPULATION INTO A SOON-TO-BECOME <45% WHITE AMERICA!")
Boomer brain fag.

Yes.
I honestly hope the angry Trumpists/dissidents -- whose support of Trump marked a revolt against this neocon nonsense -- now turn and violently revolt against Trump himself.
More and more, I'm seeing Trump an abortive 'dry run', leading to the coming of the TRUE Nationalist messiah.
The sooner we get ABSOLUTE CLARITY on this issue, the better.

From the greed side, it's the MIC.
This thread has ignored the international political power motivation. There is a constant positioning for hegemony among the great powers. Bros like Cheney weren't pushing to overthrow Saddam to help Halliburton's stock price. They were doing it because they thought it was a crucial piece of long-term strategic US power to have a US-friendly oil rich regime in that part of the world and eliminate one who might otherwise eventually ally with Russia or China.
It's why diplomats give two shits about a shithold like Syria ... If the US walks away, we cede control to Russia of a country with a shitload of strategic value (borders with Turkey, Iraq, and Israel, access to Mediterranean, oil, etc)
