I think a lot of the people who are especially upset about the Odyssey are people who are extremely drawn to it and are fans of the original poem, and have been waiting for a more modern adaptation, but are deeply insulted by the choices made. This is actually kind of how I feel, where I'm a big fan of the Odyssey, but am pretty disappointed I have to settle for a lesser version of something that could have potentially been a true 180.
