the 90s were actually pretty chaotic and corrosive and nostalgia is a vacuous leech ossifying your soul every time you indulge in it for more than a fleeting moment or two
if they were pleasurable it's only because the good guys lost and got bled to keep the veil of normalcy intact and kurt cobain lost his mind and his heart in the process
grunge and to a lesser extent gangsta rap were probably the last "real" significant american cultural moments, at least in the world of music, and they, especially the former, died in a frenzied orgy of high street cannibalism and culture vulturism from economically-minded participants
