Police said it all started from a traffic stop in downtown Commerce that turned into two high-speed pursuits topping 100 mph on Sunday after an officer attempted to pull over Daniels' mother, who ran a stop sign, police said.

"When I asked why he ran, Nyier responded that he did not want his mother to get a ticket," an incident report obtained by 11Alive on Monday states. "I stated to Nyier that now that this incident occurred his mother and him are going to jail, Nyier stated, 'It has been worse.' I tried explaining the severity of what occurred and the speeds he was driving at and what could have happened, and Nyier replied, 'Y'all can't drive.' Nyeir seemed not to care about the situation that he had put himself in, or the fact that he endangered the lives of his two younger siblings."

After police were able to get Daniels' BMW back at the police vehicle compound, they noticed the smell of marijuana coming from his car, according to the police narrative.
