Yes, I have a mousy underlying meeting for work in 2 minutes but I'll be plotting my post the whole time.

I have two in travel ball now. I added our 8 year old to the 9u team. The coach complained for obvious reasons but we've had our oldest on the team (he was 8 on 9u too) and I think they don't like dealing with my wife complaining. 9u head coach is awesome. Filipino??? football coach. He scheduled an extra practice for my kid and two others he thought needed extra work. My wife was all worried I didn't pay but he just didn't because he was free that night. That's select ball at its best.

Now for my 12u we have to deal with daddy baseball. All three coaches have kids on the team. Another mom runs the score book and another dad is insane. I don't put in the time like the other super involved dads and oddly this shows in playing time. Win/loss is an unavoidable stat for the coach. My kid is their best fielder, so he plays. He's amazing running the infield. But once the game is fairly secure we lose playing time. Behind the plate they had my kid batting 8th...he was third in batting avg last year at .450. I'm sick of that. He doesn't hit a lot of home runs but if the current justification is wins then my kid should be on the field for every play. He turns double plays and cleans up messes.

With that said, my 12u kid is bored and doesn't feel like he can crack the top 4 because all of the daddy baseball. This is the last year the team allows parents to participate so who knows. It's just hard for my kid to get amped when 5th is the realistic ceiling. But he is so fun to watch at second base. Last weekend he had three fast as fuck hits at him in a row, on turf and he cleaned up. However, bat was meh. Hitting is always top priority: if you hit the ball, you'll always have a spot on the team. We currently have three 12u teams and he starts for the A team, so he can't complain that much.

Avoid teams that allow parents to have a say in the operations.
