This is posted in response to the claims and all of the blogs that Sue Scheff has posted about the case she has against me. She is telling out right lies to promote herself, her company and her book. Her reputation is tarnished, but not by me. Her reputation is tarnished by her own actions. She has hired a company called Reputation Defender to "clean-up" her public image. It appears that Ms. Scheff has a lot to hide. (See link at bottom of page.)

Here are just a few examples of Sue Scheff's out right lies:

(1) Sue Scheff claims I was sued by my son. That is a lie. I was not sued by my son. This information is coming to Ms. Scheff via my ex-husband/ex-sister in-law. (My ex's family are still very upset with me for taking the boys out of a place that I thought was very controversial.)

(2) Sue Scheff claims I took a camera crew to Costa Rica with me in order to try and get a movie deal. That is a lie. I contacted a news reporter who was living in Costa Rica. I asked him to go with me to the program because it was in a remote location and I was not sure of what we would find. I wanted someone who was objective to go with me to report about the program. If a movie crew went to Costa Rica, they didn't go with me.

(3) Sue Scheff claims I asked her for private information on a teen who had aledgedly been raped. That is a lie. Why would I have needed to do that? I had already had several conversations with the teen's mother. I didn't need her to give me contact information on that child. And, the reason I wanted to contact the teen and her family was because my boys were still being held in the same program in which this incident occured. And, when they came back home they were at risk of being sent back until they turned 18. I wanted the facts on what had happened so that I could make an informed decision about the place.

(4) Sue Scheff claims I was not a Katrina victim. That is a lie. We had 4 feet of water damage and damage to the roof by fallen trees. I am still receiving after care from the American Red Cross as a result of the storm.

(5) Sue Scheff claims that I asked WWASP for $100,000. That is a lie. I asked WWASP to reimburse me for the expenses I incurred as a result of my boys being placed in one of their member schools without my permission.

(6) Sue Scheff claims that I intentionally started a campaign on internet forums against her. That is a lie. I simply expressed my opinions and told my story about how my family was affected by individuals such as Scheff who promote the unregulated and risky teen help industry.

These are just a few of the lies she is telling about me and my family. (Be sure and follow the links at the bottom of the page. They will give some insight into what this case is all about.)

I think it is important to know that there are no transcripts from this case. The plantiff, Sue Scheff, chose not to have a court reporter record what transpired in the court room. "No transcripts of this "trial" is shocking for several reasons, not the least of which is there is no record of witness testimony, assuming Scheff called any".

Why would someone pursue such a case and not want transcripts of what they claim to be their case, their evidence? I think it is because they have a lot to hide. I think it is what she chooses not to disclose, such as the facts presented in court, that make her suspect.

Also it is important to note that there was no defense presented because I was not aware that the case had been scheduled for trial. I am not using Hurricane Katrina as an excuse for what I believe to be true about Sue Scheff and her company PURE. I have evidence to back up my beliefs. All I want is the opportunity to present that evidence.

Events in my life have prompted me to ask the following questions:

1) How free is free speech?

2) Do we live in a country where free speech is really a constitutional right?

3) Do we have a right to express our opinions and tell about our experiences as we know them?

Well, yes we do have a right to express our opinions and tell about our experiences as we know them. I truly believe that. However, although we have that right, it is important that we have the resources, the money that it takes to be able to defend that right. I have come to learn this first hand.

• Roughly 5 years ago my twin boys were placed in a “behavior modification” program without my knowledge or my consent. At the time they were sent to this program they were living abroad with their father in Brazil. They started acting out and being rebellious as teens some times do and so their father decided they needed some type of “boot camp” experience. He did some research on the web and found the World Wide Association of Specialty Program Schools (WWASPS).

• This whole industry was new to me. I did not have a clue as to what a “specialty program” was. I had never before heard of these types of programs and therefore I needed to know more. I decided I needed to learn all about the “teen help” industry and I set out to learn all that I could about the program in which my boys had been sent. I starting searching the web.

• The information I found on the web was overwhelming. Through this search I found an individual who seemed to know a lot about this industry. Her name was Sue Scheff and her company is known as PURE. Scheff ran a website whose mission statement was to “help bring families back together”. I began to believe that this person could help me. I believed she cared about kids and she cared about their families.

• What I learned over the course of time was that Scheff was a competitor of the World Wide Association of Specialty Programs. I learned that she too was responsible for placing kids into unregulated and risky programs. When I learned of her affiliation with WWASPS and when I started seeing her do the same things she acused WWASP of doing I shared that publicly on bulletin boards on the internet, specifically http://www.fornits.com/.

• I do not agree with the placement of teens in unregulated programs and I do not agree with individuals, who like Sue Scheff, have no education or professional credentials that qualify her to advise parents on the placement of teens in programs. In addition, she does not have the education or professional credentials that qualify her to determine if a program is safe and meets the necessary requirements to treat at risk teens.

• Sue Scheff sued me for defamation of character. She claims that the words I used to describe her business and business associates caused her harm. What she shares with the public is the names and terms I used when describing her and the industry as a whole. I used terms such as “ed con”, “fraud” etc. What she doesn’t share with the public is why I used these terms. And the why is what this case is all about.

• I think Scheff believed that she could bully me into silence. She hoped that I would not be able to defend myself from the very beginning. She had two depositions taken from me during the course of this case. Both depositions centered on my defense and how it was being paid. Then when I lost the financial support she seized the opportunity to strip me of my rights to a fair trial.

• During the course of this law suit I have had many obstacles to overcome. In June of 2004 my twin sons joined the army. In August, between their graduations from basic training, Hurricane Katrina hit our area. My family was forced to stay away from our home for weeks. When we were finally allowed to return to the area we found that we had damage from 4 feet of water and from fallen trees and debris. We were without utilities for months. We would get in bed at 6:00 in the evening because we had no electricity and it was dark. We would lay and listen to a transistor radio. There were only two radio stations that would come in because most communication towers were down and we would listen to the news which all centered on the terrible things that were going on in our area. You couldn’t use your cell phones so communication outside of this area was very limited. I couldn’t stay here it was depressing and it was wearing on me mentally. The damage to the area was immense.

• Over the last two years my father has been in and out of the hospital. He has had several surgeries because of congestive heart failure. He is very ill and is now on dialysis. In January one of my twins was sent to Iraq. He spent 10 months with a combat unit in Kirkuk. I spent those months praying for his safe return. The other twin was sent to Germany. My oldest son is also in the military he is stationed in Washington.

My right to free speech is being silenced because I do not have the funds necessary to defend the truth. This law suit is an attempt to silence me. Scheff does not want the public to know the truth about her, her company and this unregulated industry that she promotes for profit.

So, once again I ask, how free is free speech? It is only as free as is your ability to defend it.
