Date: June 1st, 2008 5:50 PM Author: domesticated thriller main people i agree that the fight was called a little early (i think the ref was weirded out by the ear), but Kimbo landed 4 solid punches right before the call, and the first one caused Thompson to bleed out his earhole. he was just rocking him. thompson didn't seem like he was defending himself at all at the end there, and with a guy like Kimbo's power he could do some long term permanent damage if he had landed even a couple more blows. and the guy wasn't bleeding from his swollen ear, but from *inside the ear*, out the earhole. you can bitch about it if you want; i think it was a little conservative but in the end a fair call.
the third fight getting called was retarded though. the dood's eye was fine. |

Thompson was dazed, but he was certainly able to continue fighting. you have to wait until the guy goes to the ground or is trapped against the cage before you step in like that.
if the ear was the main concern, the ref should've had the ring doctor take a look at it before making a decision. |

even if they went the full round, i think Kimbo would've won on decision. Thompson had him on the ground a couple times, but he wasn't doing shit while he had him down there. Kimbo was much better on his feet than Thompson. all in all, i think the result (if not necessarily how it got there) is right. |

Anyways, questionable stoppages happen in the UFC as well, like when James Irvin tagged Houston Alexander in that event televised on Spike. Looked like Alexander could have regained his composure there.
I think it's a series of things people are questioning, such as no stoppage where Kimbo was pretty much taking hammer fist after hammer fist with Thompson on top of him pushed against the cage.
Also, as someone mentioned, that ref stand up was retarded. Thompson had him in side control. Refs should only stand the fighters up if one guy is just in the other guy's guard and it's obvious he can't or won't advance his position. Thompson was actually working his ground game |

i do think the stand-up was to keep the main event exciting and was questionable. |
