going to have about 160k of debt when i start a biglaw job in the fall in a major market (NY/DC/LA). realistically, how many years of biglaw will it take to get these down to 40k or so?

Ok lets set you up on a plan. Tell me the city (huge difference).

1. Can you live with roommates?

2. Do your parents live in that city/close to work?

3. What are your major expenses?

edit: I lived with my parents for 2 years and paid off an entire 140g in debt. best decision of my life.

ok there are several habits to not get into:

1. You will make more money than most of your friends. DONT buy first round every time.

2. Live close to where you work (this is more of a life lesson, less than 15 mins commute in biglaw will help you SOOO MUCH).

3. DONT start gambling, if you do gamble start doing future bets, slower drain.

4. DONT take girls to expensive restaurants (you will get wine, this will end up being a 200 dollar date.

5. DO take 1 decent vacation a year.

6. Do go to the gym 5 times a week. You will feel less like drinking.

7. Only go out to the bars one night a week.

8. Take public transportation out, cab home.

9. DO Bring your lunch to work, and maybe dinner to.

10. DONT start banging hookers cause you dont have time to date.

11. DO be nice to people, smile.
