So you need a pen for work? And from the sound of it, something that's durable and long-lasting, at least for the project your working on. Is that a fair characterization of your needs?

Yes. But I don't want to pay top dollar. Tell me, what if you and I arranged a side deal. Your employer wouldn't have to know that I'm buying pens directly from you.

Look, theology is great...can I call you theo? Theo, what is the most you'd imagine spending on a pen for this project? Assuming the pen is durable, stylish and does what you need it do.

I think in this situation, if we can talk about some future arrangements between the two of us where we have a good relationship, and you help me out, and I help you out, I think per pen, I think I'll pay $1.25 a pen.

Theo, I appreciate the offer. In all fairness, a $1.25 pen isn't going to get you much. At that price point, you'll be running into all sorts of issues - dry ink (we call that " ink lock" in the industry), running out of ink quickly, lack of structural durability. Sure, it's fine if you need to jot down a few quick notes, but you need something that lasts.
More importantly, you need something that makes a statement. Something that says "I've arrived - now watch this drive." What do you think a $1.25 pen will say about you? It's going to say "I'm cheap, I don't care about quality and neither should you." Is that the message you want to convey?
