First, a lot of your valued posters are no longer law students, they're clerks, associates, or otherwise graduated from law school/grad school. The "on topic" function should include career related or school related stuff, not merely law school stuff.

Second, the categories at the left of the main screen are unnecessary and detract from space. You should either make better categories or eliminate them... in place you should...

Allow moderators or yourself to create a "best of" section, where people can see famous humor threads OR good threads about XYZ firms or ABC schools. Allow or invite someone like Rowan or Renada or earl to do some very simple indexing... maybe just adding "tags" so people can see stuff that is actually related to NYU or CLS or HLS, etc.

Lastly, this site has improved a lot since you banned just a few people. You seem to realize that XO's competitive advantage isnt the software or format (BLB's is at least equal, if not slightly better). BLB has boring posters, whereas you have some genuinely smart and helpful ppl sprinkled in with trolls/jokes/etc. You're not going to listen to random monikers like this, but def take into account what people are telling you. Just clean up the board's functionality and use your advantage in terms of better posters.

Good luck, amigo.

agreed. the majority of us are either already in law school, etc., or have already graduated. it is gay to treat the board as being primarily about law school admissions. should be more like taxtalent.

Right, and you could attract new niches of people (i.e. the 95% of attorneys who aren't biglaw associates) if the categories were more meaningful and at the same time broader.

My idea would be a system of sensible tags that would allow people to pare down threads if they really need information.

For example, let's say someone wants to know about the MBE or the MPRE. There should be tags for the 5-10 best threads about those as a starting place.

Also there should be 5-10 threads about the major state bar exams (I'm thinking NY, CA, TX, IL, MD, VA, DC).

From there, you go to schools--at a minimum, you could do it on a school by school basis. But to "add value", I'd probably index them by range or comparable schools. I.e. tags for HYS/CCN/MVP/rest of t14/rest of t25/tier 2/true TTT.

Lastly, I'd create a "best of" tag and possible some tags for more recent stuff like the MBS meltdown or any major legal issues.

That might seem like a lot of tags (probably 40 or so) but it would really create a more usable indexing system than that shit that's on the left side of the board right now.

nah, bro. I'm actually not gunnerish at all, but I do want to see the board grow, bring in new people, and see better discussions. I actually don't give a crap about the "resources" for myself. I'm pretty set in my life but I think others would be drawn here and spend long enough to "join the community" if they get at least some info out of it.

I think its slightly better, if only because it doesn't have as much crap on the left side of the screen. It also loads more quickly. And the font is slightly larger on page 1.

Lastly, it at least has the potential to tag stuff as "best of" and its searching function is somewhat better (dont need to search by thread title, you can search post text and get a score based on how often that term appears in the thread)

It's not a huge factor though... the poster base is much more important in deciding which is a better LONG TERM resource. People won't contribute information in a vaccuum and BLB at times seems like a toolshed with only 10 posters on an avg day.

Sure. I've tossed this idea around in the past but someone said to me outlinedepot already does it (so I guess that means I shouldn't). What do you think about that? I don't see why we couldn't start something similar, it's not like they have some kind of monopoly rights.

Because you have a better poster base and word of mouth/traffic would mean new posters.

You could also link the outlines to discussions about the cases or where the case "fits" in terms of the big picture of torts, contracts, etc.

It would allow people to discuss, which is a benefit in and of itself--beyond just reading or printing an outline/case summary

i'm not even sure bc i've never been to 4lawschool.com.

i think your priority needs to be XO, unless i'm wrong and this isn't the site with the most traffic and potential.

i think you need to pare down the options here, create better ways to "sort" the board's posts, and tie everything else back into xo... on the same site. i'm VERY skeptical that people will go between 2-3 sites... if you got it into one, easily navigatable site, with the board as the focus (and everything else augmenting that) i think you'd be head and shoulders better than all the other "dry" or boring law school sites out there.

I totally agree with you. I can place that stuff over here - when you have the chance, could you go over there and take a look, so I know if that material is along the lines of what you're looking for?

i'll have to look more closely. but i'm just one person... you need to ask as many people as you can find.

to be honest, you have the USER BASE that could contribute much better material than you could create/buy elsewhere. you just need to create a vessel and let them fill it up.

tagging of posts, categorizing of posts. paring down categories, removing spam, and adding in tie-ins is the way to go, bro.

problem is, what Rep Defender did to Ciolli means people will be much less likely to help out in any kind of visible way

:(

That will change once enough people are helping out. People won't be afraid once enough people are involved and I predict the reputation of this site can be repaired a lot more quickly than people realize.

i think you're right, because fame/infamy= lots of eyes and people paying attention. people WILL notice when you fix/change/add things.

and bc you have so many readers/posters, you'll end up with good content uploaded.

lastly, people will *use* this stuff, sort it out on the boards, and things will take care of themselves. people will compete to have the best outline, the best review of a certain case, etc.

and stuff will get passed down within schools, between schools, for visiting profs' classes, etc.

the ability to discuss this on the boards with lots of people will mean your site would rule.

your problem now is the front page has useless stuff, its hard to search/sort old posts, and you own like 5 mediocre sites instead of 1 great site (XO would be the great one if you can do it). put everything into XO and use the other sites as mirrors...

just my 2 cents, once again.

ok i just visited. initial reactions-- not nearly as active, doesnt have the user-generated content advantage of XO, has lots of links which dont appeal to me, and i'd just end up coming to the XO forum and asking questions, rather than trying to build a community there.

just my 2 cents.
