First and second tier mods experiment

Date: April 2nd, 2015 12:58 AM Author: Bearded bbw I figure we live in a world obsessed with tiers and classes, so I'm going to see how this works with mods. If it's a disaster, I'll undo it, it's just an experiment in checks and balances.
Taking into consideration recommendations made earlier today, I will be granting a few people mod access on a trial basis. Some mods will have the ability to delete posts and threads, and other "unmods" will have the ability to restore posts and threads if they feel they were unnecessarily deleted. I will be logging all these actions and they will be displayed in the following fashion:
Identities of mods will be visible to unmods, albeit with aliases, and identities of unmods will be visible to the public, albeit with aliases. There will be a page that displays all mod actions, in a better format than the garbage board. If there is abuse, I think it won't be hard for people to identify the problem. Probably overly complicated, but it's a funny scheme. |

If it's feasible to put a time limit on mod powers, you could force people email you after 90 days or so to retain their mod privileges. Without your permission the account would revert back to an ordinary one.
The idea would be that if they've given the account to someone else, without an email from them confirming that they want to keep it going, their accounts would eventually expire, limiting the amount of mischief a rogue mod could do.
Cons: a little more administrative work on your end |

spoilers serve no purpose whatsoever other than to take something with is enjoyable to a large number of people, and ruin it for them. It's not trolling, its not expressing an opinion or trying to be funny or creative. its griefing, and that is bullshit. And mods in part try to protect the community - which is why outing is not allowed. anonymity and the ability to be offensive and offended is cherished here. deleting spoilers and banning griefers who are being intentional shitheads protects the community. |

And to prove that I am not unreasonably anti-modding, I believe I was the original proponent of expanding the law of the land to include deleting threads with spoiler titles. The particular thread was titled with a Watchmen spoiler (lol), and Earl participated in it. I think at the time, Earl was against modding spoilers. |

I do think some discretion is needed when it comes to dealing with shitheads who are trolling and what content is being moderated.
For instance, lets say I write a parody song about RSF's dad being a shitlaw king making money off of burnt human flesh. While this is not outing, this is exposing (or at least repeating) some off board IRL information that maybe he did not want known. It could also help an ape detective out him. However the context of the post had nothing to do with outing and the content itself had some value.
Contrast this with Benzo, who is not creative at all, but who instead copies and pastes the same shit for the sole purpose of testing limits to be an annoying asshole. There is no content there. I think Benzo should be given less leeway when he is doing this - however the general rules should still apply. |

Likeable poasters will always be allowed more discretion by good faith mods compared to the shitheads, and if a likeable poaster says something that turns out in retrospect to violate the Law of the Land, it can be cleaned up then.
Of course, this assumes Rach won't make horrible choices in who he appoints as mods, which given his track record over the last couple years, cannot be assumed. |
