Month one: Sit around home and do jack, maybe study for the LSAT a few hours a day
Month two: Counselor at a summer camp. Free lakeside lodging, food and bitches.
Month three: Chill out at a prestigious beach club in South Carolina, taking a quick break to stay on someone's lake house in Minnesota.

there are plenty of proxies for being a compliant office lackey. and every little fucker who shows up at a law firm's doorstp has memorized what's "professional" and whats not. you might marvel at your own journey. but take a moment to look around and recognize how common you are (and that's assuming you actually go/went to a good law school, which you clearly don't)
sorry for your tiny pink aspirations.

"' firms love hiring people with minimal professional work experience."
i'm not sure they "love" it; but you seem to be vastly overstating how detrimental someone having enjoyed a summer that will in fact be totally irrelevant to most hiring decisions will be.

to be frank, it is probably the most prestigious summer camp in the country.
Also: next summer will be much more serious. I figured this is the last summer I have to really enjoy myself, why not go all out?

Also, I make it to kiawah often. Not a whole lot of nightlife, but it's great for what it is. Enjoy.

if someone proposed these people as characters in a movie, they'd be rejected as unrealistic.
a douchebag actually cautioning against having fun one summer -- rather than getting some intership that will just cause the people who interview you to laugh at your self-important naivete -- just isn't plausible. and yet . . .

The jealous, pathetic losers in this thread trying to put the OP down for not working during an UG summer need to STFU. Once you get in LS it's plain that UG summers are meaningless. Having worked every summer of UG, I would trade all of the internships and shitty jobs to have one, genuinely good story to tell about a summer where I just did nothing but had loads of fun. My summers were awesome, but they could have been so much better if I knew that UG summer "work experience" (lol @ even calling it that) was completely worthless.

What part of "Once you get in LS it's plain that UG summers are meaningless" did you not understand? I'm talking specifically about LS.
OP also makes it clear his end goal is LS when he says "GPA/LSAT."
Obviously if you're looking to get a banking job straight out of UG, you need to work, because that is all you have, but you're the only one here bringing up banking.

I think the argument that you should get a meaningful job is downright stupid, but of all the places to brag about your summer, a law school board seems an odd place to do it. Our summers will consist of making $36k for 12 weeks of eating lunch and socializing.

it's not even necessarily about being an SA or making $$$. there are countless fellowships/other experiences which may not amount to much money, but certainly a more interesting story than being a camp counselor (not that it wouldn't be fun, like i originally mentioned).

It's just really sad that small law posters can't even keep up with a regular argument.
Let me try to take it slowly for you Cooley grads. We're comparing between two things: OP's summer and SA. OP's summer is summer camp. It isn't "college life" at large. Stop changing the subject just because you know you're getting fucking pwned

Who cares if it's at a summer camp? The beauty of college is not having responsibility and having tons of free time to get fucked up with friends. Working at a summer camp provides even more free time and less responsibility than taking classes does, since your grades have some impact on your future.
You're touchy about this because you expect your summer of "fun" eating at restaurants with partners and fellow summers who you will soon grow to hate to make up for missing out on the fun summers that normal cool people experienced during college.

I'm not in smallaw, idiot. I'm a 3L at a T14.
Here's the thing. Losers on xoxo have no friends and no one would voluntarily spend time with them, so they prefer making money and going out to dinner with assholes at their law firm to being freeto hang out with their friends all day. Xoxo losers think going to biglaw receptions is the same sort of fun that you have drinking with your friends all summer and having not a responsibility in the world, only because they've never had friends or a decent social life of their own.

I don't think you photocopy at a summer camp. This is the difference between us: you expect your job to provide your fun and excitement for the summer but I'd rather be 21 again, have no reasponsibilities and able to spend all day sleeping in, smoking and drinking with college buddies.
If you would honestly rather be a law student than a college student, well, I pity your college experience.

Stop changing the subject. We're strictly comparing between summer associate and summer working at camp. That's OP's summer, working at summer camp.
You're not sleeping in, smoking and drinking at a summer camp. But keep straw-manning if you want.
Given your reasoning skills, it's no wonder you're in small law. How was Pittsburgh?
