We counted all votes, except the following: (1) monikers voting multiple times had their votes disregarded, and (2) two bursts of never-seen-before-or-since monikers voting in a rhythm that made it obvious watching in real time that it was one person logging out of one account and logging into another account. We think this is the most just approach – count everyone, except the clearly fake votes.

The end result: 52-52. This includes all votes coming in until 11:45pm. There is no satisfactory tie-breaker for the final, so ***WE HAVE A TIE***. There are therefore ***TWO GOLD MEDALS***.

(If you’re interested, TT wins if we count all votes including the obvious bogus ones, and gunner wins if we count only votes of monikers that have been seen before posting in non-MPM threads. The looser approach would permit clearly fake votes, the tighter approach would ding some clearly genuine votes – we think our chosen approach finds a happy balance between false positive and false negatives. And this most just approach results in the tie.)

MPM 2021 is an incredible reminder of how many great poasters there are here. Narrowing the 250+ active poasters (even only counting known sudos that I remembered, so really probably 500++) down to 128, doing the seeds, and watching the votes come in all makes the following stunningly clear to me:

There are a **LOT** of really great poasters here. And XO is still the only place on the internet with completely free speech and a large critical mass of high IQ and **INTERESTING** poasters. We suffered a big hit after the Darcy fiasco, but we are back baby. And even though there are so many talented individuals here, XO is still somehow much greater than the sum of its parts. There’s no place else like it, anywhere. I really like it here.
