The fact that all the research is available on the computer means that retards can do it pretty easily and a large portion of the intellectual aspect of the profession is dead. This results in a lot more mindless paper pushing to bill sufficient hours.

i thought about this the other day as i did a control+F on a couple hundred pages of statutes. 30 years ago that would've been a days worth of work.

seems like old school lawyers did way less work, they just knew how to do shit and didn't worry about putting 50 hours of research into something stupid

it's far less congenial from what i hear.

if you were a lawyer in the 1950's or something, you actually belonged to a professional guild, and you and your fellow lawyers acted like respected professional men-about-town.

that means you got together with the other lawyers for drinks all the time.

a long lunch with plenty of booze was just another way to build some camaraderie.

the work was often tedious, and unsuccessful solos had a really rough time (then as now), but the whole legal industry was much more genteel and respectable in a lot of ways.

Back in the day, people thought the law was a source of independent knowledge. Now we know that it's really just the creation of a bunch of people who really should understand economics a lot better than they do.

Laws are meant to control people, and lawyers are just minions that usurp wealth and feed the bureaucracy.

the laity caught on to the bill-by-the-hour scam and now want to pay by the project.
