It’s very good, much better than mediocre Drive. It’s not anti-globohomo or pro-dissident, though. I think xo doesn’t understand what those terms mean. Yeah it’s a movie with all men/no women and all white men, and it’s about war and survival, but that doesn’t make a movie a dissident movie
Anyway I like the acting and the action is great and good direction and strong story so far, very gripping

wrong
there are certain movies that slip past the censors with actual pro-dissident themes
start with the angry birds movie if you don't believe me

(reading comp fail)
as i said, i like this movie a lot (much more than drive), it's just not a dissident movie
no plans to watch gettysberg as it was not suggested as a "dissident" film

wrong frame entirely. if youre just doing the converse of "this movie says nothing explicitly about systemic racism and the oppression of queer bodies", you lose
the only hope inherent in "dissenting" from GAE is one which rests in a fuller, healthier, more natural view of what makes a human person and a human society worth having.
Good art ennobles. Master and Commander ennobles.
Watching it with a checklist of "right wing" issues is a feeble, immiserated and sick way to live.

It’s whether it promotes a worldview of inegalitarianism
Our whole western metaphysics is based on egalitarinaism
Master and commander doesn’t have much to say on the topic, it’s just an adventure/war movie with themes of brotherhood

i think "promotes" must do a lot of work in your standard.
it reminds me of a lib american friend who saw the movie after coming back from oxford. He hated the little blonde kid and hated the movie in a fit of anglo-hate.
he said he was disgusted how the prole sailors had to defer to this 10 year old little lord, how un-american that was, how quintessentially british, etc etc.
so, best as I can recall, the movie very much portrays a world of brutal hierarchy and inegalitarianism.
Does it "promote" it? That's where I suspect you start hungering for propaganda, which is the lib trait I describe above

The 10 year old kid went on to do a great job portraying the young Augustus in Rome
Havnt seen him in anything else
Yes, a dissident movie would end up promoting inegalitarianism and tearing down egalitarianism, otherwise it’s just neutral
