I want to study statistics, here’s the question as I posted it for normies:
Grad school: How should I write my statement of purpose?
I’m almost at the finish line: GRE, transcripts, references. In good shape. But now I need to write my statement of purpose. My problem is I have two purposes.
1. I’m a librarian, and having that statistical knowledge could definitely be applied to high level positions in my field. My employer is even helping with the tuition.
2. I want to be able to not be a librarian in the future, so I am also trying to broaden my skills to make that possible. I like math and I’m eager to learn also for its own sake and for the challenge of it.
Do you think it is OK to put both purposes in an SOP? Or does it seem too unfocused? Which one would you pick?
