What makes this sit so great is the format. The simplicity of everything is key.
Take this format and add a a couple of things.
1) Highlight the last four posts in threads. This would be extremely useful in threads when posts get over 50. 2) Have lines that connect posts. When replies start going out to the right and there are many of them it becomes hard to read/follow. 3) Private messages
You have too much visual clutter. The boxes around posts, I hate. The color combo and general format of the main page sucks. Too much clutter. Simplify it.

Even then once everything was fixed people gradually either quit posting or migrated back here.
I doubt there will be any serious exodus of this community unless a similar situation in the future makes this board unusable. |

This is a controversial community with little growth. Posters are mostly crotchety, paranoid long timers who mistrust change. They value absolute anonymity first (a huge number of people have changed their screen names to punctuation despite this place being about as anonymous as possible), and the low-feature, old school format second (I mean the site was fucking created as a result of modernization on the old board, and basically every new feature here has eventually been chucked).
I know you are an old timer but despite any sentimentality about this community, it seems like the worst possible seed for building a new community if in fact your vision is so good. |

Everyone here has a rough idea what the rules are about what can be posted and what cannot, how our personal information will be handled, and what happens to people who exceed the limits of the site. We know none of that about your board.
2. Your board doesn't really offer anything that would persuade us to move. Most of the features you view as superior are ones that people here either wouldn't bother to use or would prefer not to have. Superior programming doesn't matter if it's used to achieve ends posters here don't desire, and at the end of the day I don't really want to social network with whokebe or ......,,,....,,,,..,. Your concept would probably go over much better with a different group of people than with this particular community, and I would urge you to try to build your site by attracting people who are on the same page with you.
3. It's easier to post here than somewhere else. Biglawboard offers something much closer to what this community is looking for, and people generally can't be persuaded to post there unless they're seriously frustrated with something here. Changing to a new format would be even more difficult.
4. You seem to be resting a lot of the appeal on your trustworthiness as a poster. You are a college board poster, and many law board posters are completely unfamiliar with you. Of the college board posters, many may remember you as being arrogant and schticky and abrasive. Even if you were an interesting poster with a large following, those aren't necessarily the traits people would want in the owner of their message board. |
