Unsatisfying thing about “Sucession” is

And the writers spend almost a whole season getting us invested in each attempt. But it is all for naught. It’s a little like watching a tower of dominoes shake, and never fall.
Unsatisfying. And you stop investing bc you know “this will go nowhere”. Just like Logan’s serious health issues.
I hope for this upcoming final season, something happens. |

Each season needs to have an arc, but they have to write it so that the actors (not the characters) largely stay in balance. So what happens is, each season builds toward the toppling of Logan, only for something or other to jam up those plans, and next season the same thing happens.
The way this was executed in Season One was incredible. In season two it was a little more off the mark but overall very enjoyable. In season three you could see that they're already recycling plot hooks, and it was obvious by the mid-point that, no matter what happens, it will end with everyone more or less in status quo. That really makes it hard to suspend disbelief.
The character development in Succession has been great (the one exception to this was their attempt at portraying Kendall as bipolar, which really sucked). The world building is also great. But the plot will go nowhere until the actor who plays Logan Roy actually dies, or until an actor gets bored and leaves for another project. And that makes it hard to be excited for future seasons. |
