His namesake was adopted as the actual word for "king" in multiple languages across Europe (e.g. kaiser, czar). Only person who accomplished anything similar was Genghis Khan.

The history of "Caesar" as an imperial title is reflected by the following monarchic titles, usually reserved for "Emperor" and "Empress" in many languages (note that the name Caesar, pronounced /siːzər/ in English, was pronounced [kaisar] in Classical Latin):

Afro-Asiatic languages:

Arabic: Qays'r قصر;قيصر Qas'r (palace)[citation needed][dubious – discuss]

Hebrew: Kesár‎ קיסר (male) & Kesarít קיסרית (female);

Albanian:

Albanian: Çezar & Qesarinë;

Armenian:

Armenian: կայսր Kaysr, and Armenian: կայսրություն Kaysrutiun meaning empire;

Greek:

Modern Greek: Greek: Καίσαρας (Kaisaras), the archaic form Greek: Καίσαρ is rarely used today;

Austronesian languages:

Bahasa Indonesia: Kaisar;

Baltic languages:

Latvian: Ķeizars & Ķeizariene;

Germanic languages:

Danish: Kejser & Kejserinde;

Dutch: Keizer & Keizerin;

German: Kaiser & Kaiserin;

Icelandic: Keisari & Keisaraynja;

Faroese: Keisari & Keisarinna;

Norwegian: Keiser & Keiserinne (bokmål) / Keisar & Keisarinne (nynorsk);

Swedish: Kejsare & Kejsarinna

Old English: cāsere

Indo-Iranian languages:

Persian: Ghaysar‎ قيصر

Urdu: Qaysar قيصر used in the title "Kaiser-i-Hind" ("Emperor of India") during the British Raj

Kartvelian languages

Georgian: კეისარი (Keisari)

Romance languages

Italian, Cesare, used as a first name.

Romanian, cezar as a common noun in certain contexts; Cezar, used as a first name.

Spanish, Portuguese and French, César: commonly used as first or second name.

Slavic languages:

Belarusian: Цар & Царыца (Tsar & Tsarytsa)

Bulgarian: Цар & Царица (Tsar & Tsaritsa);

Croatian: Car & Carica (c is read ts);

Czech: Císař & Císařovna;

Macedonian: Цар & Царица (Tsar & Tsarica Ц is read ts)

Polish: Cesarz & Cesarzowa;

Russian: Царь & Царица, Czar & Czaritza (archaic transliteration), Tsar & Tsaritsa (modern transliteration); however in the Russian Empire (also reflected in some of its other languages), which aimed to be the "third Rome" as successor to the Byzantine Empire, it was abandoned (not in the foreign language renderings though) as imperial style — in favor of Imperator and Autocrator — and used as a lower, royal style as within the empire in chief of some of its parts, e.g. Georgia and Siberia

In the United States and, more recently, Britain, the title "czar" (from the Russian title) is a slang term for certain high-level civil servants, such as the "drug czar" for the director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy and "terrorism czar" for a Presidential advisor on terrorism policy. More specifically, a czar refers to a sub-cabinet-level advisor within the executive branch of the U.S. government.

Serbian: Цар & Царица / Car & Carica (pronounced Tsar & Tsaritsa) or Kesar/Кесар

Slovak: Cisár & Cisárovná;

Slovene: Cesar & Cesarica or Car & Carica;

Ukrainian: Цісар і Цісарева (thisar & tsisareva), also Ukrainian: Цар/Царь & Царина (archaic transliteration: czar & czarina), Tsar & Tsaryna (modern transliteration)

Turkic languages:

Turkish: Kayser (historical), Sezar (modern). Kayser-i-Rûm "Caesar of [Constantinople, the second] Rome", one of many subsidiary titles proclaiming the Ottoman Sultan (main imperial title Padishah) as (Muslim) successor to "Rum" as the Turks called the (Christian) Roman Empire (as Byzantium had continued to call itself), continuing to use the name for part of formerly Byzantine territory (compare the Seljuk Rum-sultanate)

HW's the credited response. He was already viewed as one of the most prestigious people in the world back in the mid '80s, -before- he became President, let alone his sons becoming President and governors.

Losing in 1992 just makes him more prestigious as prestige differs from and often has a negative correlation to Mass Market Appeal.

no it's not.

charlemagne - 180 legacy, but ultimately a legacy borne of the romans, derived a lot of power from being recognized by the pope, family very weak (born illegitimate)

washington - one of the most 180 legacies of all time so far, but not a prestigious ancestry. america hasn't been around long enough for him to overtake some of the great emperors.

napoleon - one of the great geniuses of history but very much not prestigious in terms of lineage, plus he eventually got pwned hard unfortunately

plenty of people had more prestigious lineage than augustus, but it's not like he came from nothing, and the roman method of adoption mitigates that anyway. julius chose him at a young age, and he in turn chose tiberius who carried on the world-dominating legacy that augustus built.

Crassus had to bail him out of all his debts originally - and although he was a blue blood aristocrat technically, his family had fallen on harder times recently.

I've read several historians argue that his populism, while obviously self-serving, was heavily shaped by his time spent as a child around the poor underclass who lived in the apartment complexes his father managed.

He'd be on my list but not number 1 - and it depends on our definition of prestige, whether it's while they were living or historical impressions etc.

Hebrew: Kesár‎ קיסר (male) & Kesarít קיסרית (female);

Albanian:

Albanian: Çezar & Qesarinë;

Armenian:

Armenian: կայսր Kaysr, and Armenian: կայսրություն Kaysrutiun meaning empire;

Greek:

Modern Greek: Greek: Καίσαρας (Kaisaras), the archaic form Greek: Καίσαρ is rarely used today;

Austronesian languages:

Bahasa Indonesia: Kaisar;

Baltic languages:

Latvian: Ķeizars & Ķeizariene;

Germanic languages:

Danish: Kejser & Kejserinde;

Dutch: Keizer & Keizerin;

German: Kaiser & Kaiserin;

Icelandic: Keisari & Keisaraynja;

Faroese: Keisari & Keisarinna;

Norwegian: Keiser & Keiserinne (bokmål) / Keisar & Keisarinne (nynorsk);

Swedish: Kejsare & Kejsarinna

Old English: cāsere

Indo-Iranian languages:

Persian: Ghaysar‎ قيصر

Urdu: Qaysar قيصر used in the title "Kaiser-i-Hind" ("Emperor of India") during the British Raj

Kartvelian languages

Georgian: კეისარი (Keisari)

Romance languages

Italian, Cesare, used as a first name.

Romanian, cezar as a common noun in certain contexts; Cezar, used as a first name.

Spanish, Portuguese and French, César: commonly used as first or second name.

Slavic languages:

Belarusian: Цар & Царыца (Tsar & Tsarytsa)

Bulgarian: Цар & Царица (Tsar & Tsaritsa);

Croatian: Car & Carica (c is read ts);

Czech: Císař & Císařovna;

Macedonian: Цар & Царица (Tsar & Tsarica Ц is read ts)

Polish: Cesarz & Cesarzowa;

Slovak: Cisár & Cisárovná;

Slovene: Cesar & Cesarica or Car & Carica;

Uralic languages:

Estonian: Keiser & Keisrinna;

Finnish: Keisari & Keisarinna or Keisaritar;

Hungarian: Császár & Császárnő;

Wow, talk about nouveau riche. Having to achieve everything on your own is the opposite of prestigious. Prestige is about having a noble lineage and being able to devote your life to leisure.

Any duke who goes to a Swiss boarding school and has a yacht is infinitely more prestigious than Genghis Khan or some striver professional.

Genghis Khan obviously a huge alpha but not prestigious because he destroyed the world around him and reshaped it in his image, whereas the essence of prestige is to excel in the world on its own terms. Prestige is the guy who goes to Harvard and graduates first in his class, not the guy who skips college and becomes a startup billionaire.
