2Ls looking to work in Chicago might want to send a resume to VedderPrice. I did a very late callback with them that I didn't care about (dunno why I even went in the first place, they're not doing the things I'm interested in...but the food was nice), and they only finally dinged me on Friday after I never even wrote a thank-you letter or e-mail. Given that they waited that long (eight days after the NALP deadline), my assumption is that they were looking for me to express even a modicum of interest. Since I didn't, they may still be looking for a 2L summer.
If you're from some TTT you're probably not what they're looking for. But if you're a T14 student, they may give you a shot. And they pay market.

it might be time to start thinking about some in house type options for this summer, which can still be nice (~1k a week) and a good resume boost and exposure to corporate legal work
your career service should be able to help you with this.

I have 3 interviews setup when I go home over Christmas break as a result of my post-12/1 email campaign.
I'm also setting up a 4th in a different city who said "let's talk next time you're in town". I will be in that city next week visiting.
I had 1 callback with a different firm in said city that I haven't heard from yet so might pop my head in there, too. They're in the same building. They just merged with a bigger firm and purportedly are looking to expand big time so I hope that is good for me.

I guess just a lot of luck. None of these firms interviewed at OCI and are in secondary markets that don't really recruit at my school.
With regards to my hometown, there aren't a lot of NALP firms so late in the game I happened to find the list of OCI firms at the local TTT school. All of the non-NALP firms recruit at this school (there is also a T1 school in town). So I supplemented my NALP spam and spammed the non-nalp firms and got a screener interview from 1 firm. Post 12/1, I re-spammed everyone I hadn't heard from saying I would be in town over break and got the other interviews. Surprisingly, one of them is from a "big" NALP firm in town who didn't have a record of my initial email but liked my resume' so invited me in.
With the other city, I spammed them early in the game and got a couple of bites and have just stayed in contact with the recruiting folks.

Well that and because I have connections to both cities. One is my hometown and the other one is a city that I lived in for 5 years and where my employer is a big client to the firms I interviewed at.
I also tried the "I'll be in town" for some bigger markets where I didn't have connections with no luck.

I bet some of you never figured that in a room of 100 classmates, you'd stand out as one of the 2 or 3 least employable and personable in the eyes of employers. That must suck.
Those of you at TTTs my disregard this post. Your life sucked enough in advance that you can't be terribly surprised or upset about nobody wanting to employ you.

For someone who loves to claim that they don't really care about getting a firm job and haven't put that much effort into the process, you sure do seem to do nothing but think and talk about getting a firm job.
I suggest dropping the defense mechanism. You care, and you're failing. Embrace it.

been more than a week, no word... thus, I assume it's safe to presume, that i've been, again, dinged.
Dinged out of my fucking misery.

I felt so sad when I saw friends who don't have jobs yet; they looked so fucking miserable that I almost cried. Must suck like hell. Good luck everyone.

I'm at home over the holidays. Had 1 interview last week and was told that they would have hired me but decided to hire an associate rather than a summer (real small firm). Have 3 next week but 1 of them is a "we don't have any spots but would love to interview you for 3L OCI".
Had 2 callbacks in another city where I had connection a few weeks ago that I never heard back from. I think the dings might be waiting for me back at school.

You seriously got that as feedback?
Have you done mock interviews with career services?

does your school do spring OCI? or does it have a site where employers can post job openings? because trust me, doing fall OCI as a 3L is even harder than doing it as a 2L. i did it again this year and got no offers even though my grades were better and i worked at a firm my 2L summer. i had an offer from my 2L summer firm, but i wanted to see what else was out there before accepting. so i guess i shouldn't complain, but i did notice that doing OCI as a 3L was HORRIBLE. then again, i was only interviwing w/local firms, so that may have been why i had such bad luck, i dunno.
USE YOUR FIRM CONNECTION. it can't hurt, right? i don't think that one more (possible) reject is going to push you over the edge.

I'll use my firm connection if my grades end up good this semester (I'll find out my grades very soon).
We have a spring OCI and a website where employers can post job openings.
I realize that 3L OCI is difficult, but at this point I'm not going to be happy where I'll be this summer, as most if not all of the good biglaw firms are taken at this point. I'm just busting my nuts this year for good grades and we'll see what comes.

I'd also encourage you to go ahead and use your firm connection. I think at this point it's less about grades. Someone is doing you a favor so just get your foot in the door and try and wow them.
After I got my offer I mentioned above, a firm contact got me a screener interview with a secondary market big law firm. I could tell that the guy was just doing a favor but then apparently liked me enough to call the recruiting manager in and set up a call back on the spot. She said that the class was full but that they always leave themselves 1 - 2 spots for cases like mine. I'm back at school now but fly back out for the call back next week.
Same firm dinged my mass mail a few months ago, so there is hope!

Wait, how many of us are from T14s?
This is ridiculous, having to switch career paths [civil -> criminal] just because I struck out this hiring season.

Keep working those connections and the phones from your mass mail contacts!
I just got another call from a local firm (~80 attorneys) to come in and interview tomorrow. My SO's boss made the call in hopes that we won't leave town after graduation. Flying out for another call back Thursday which will be the last one.
I only got one call back through OCI (ding). 5 callbacks through mass mail with all but 1 well after 12/1 and 2 from working connections. So far 2 offers, 1 that seem like an offer is coming, 2 upcoming CBs, 1 I haven't heard from in awhile, and 1 ding. Most of these firms are top regional firms, too.
Moral of the story, keep up home and keep working the phones and your connections! There's still time!

"Can't find a better way? You don't try, just sit there and whine about your decline. I think it's a pathetic sort of life you choose. Methods abused, solutions refused. Well good for you but someday you will lose your life, without even giving it a try. Depression is the only thing you'll find. Give it one chance before you die. Just got one day to get a life."
