Okay, that's pretty prole in and of itself, but it gets worse. She's no looker or genius herself, so she lets herself get dragged on a terrible misadventure to Moscow that ruined any semblance of a gainful career for husband, landing them in some cramped apartment in NYC filled with cheap Ikea garbage and a dog that they overpay $1000 a month for.
She gets on XO every single day, and floods the board with banality: Please look at pictures of my dog again! Check out central park! Listen to gossip about my coworkers! Hey look, it's my dog again! Oh yay I'm so excited about Ikea!
Her days revolve around walking her dog, taking pictures of her dog, and posting on XO. She faces terrible abuse on her everyday, where people call her ugly, have posted her pictures without her consent, and completely and utterly deride her and her lifestyle choices. Where are her friends? Who does she hang out with besides the occasional pathetic XO meetup?
It depresses me bros. |

Date: April 14th, 2012 9:46 PM Author: Galvanic dysfunction because a $10K boat with zero maint is such a huge money pit. you dont have to buy a 200 foot yacht with a $4000 slip to go with it. you buy a small boat which you can putter around the lake with and can carry a few friends along. then you park it in storage somewhere and not a slip on an expensive marina. you do basic stuff like oil changes etc yourself. marine engines are incredibly reliable. your real estate is a depreciating asset which you currently dont even have. buildings require property taxes and maint. maybe you should buy a decent place for yourself to start with and go from there if you can. living in a shoebox is not a lifestyle to be proud of.

No. Because the median family income is something like $50k/year and most people have kids out of obligation. Given these two features it is hard to imagine that suburbs wouldn't be popular. You can't live in a decent city on $50k/year with kids. We make considerably more than 3x that and worry about cash in the city even without kids.

We do. For some reason XO seems to oscillate between picturing me as a miser who lives on a shoestring budget and some extravagant new money striver that saves up for the conspicuous consumption that drives my life (apparently, why I live on CP, etc). Anyway, the truth is in the middle. We never do our laundry because we have wash and fold, have a car and garage, live on central park, take various trips wherever, go to restaurants a lot, but of course we still have loans to pay (just made a huge payment recently) and if I get a job I'm happy with we'll start looking at purchasing real estate. In the meantime, sure, we have a large liquid cushion in case things go *Kaboom* again. |

first, find a place you want to live. i didnt like LA but i did like half moon bay. you might like mountain view. or san diego. then just buy a place and commit to it. that means you wont be moving for at least 5 yrs. so make sure its decent. and you have a decent job to start with. jobs change. deal with it. make sure the market is decent for your skill set. buy it on the outskirts somewhat so you can have 2-3 cities to work in if possible. this may not be an option but its good to have. secondly, find a wife. dont just date random ass. look for decent females while you can. eventually you wont be able to. thirdly its a car. i dont care much for cars but you might. buy it outright and plan to keep it for 7-8 years. dont lease because thats another way of avoiding commitment.

I was on here yesterday night and I replied to one of her Ikea threads. I was pretty clearly making fun of her, but she kept responding in earnest. It was after her second longer response to my snark that basically this whole op dawned on me (though I hadn't seen this thread before). Here I was insulting a girl who literally had nothing better to do than post on a Friday night about her upcoming weekend disassembling and reassembling Ikea furniture.
The only responses were total non sequiturs and even after she bumped the thread with something substantive, no one responded. And that seems to be a constant theme when she posts, people making fun of her or railing on TMF for his mental, emotional, and physical shortcomings.
I felt terrible once I had this realization so I didn't respond again (though I kept posting for another half hour or so). I mean, I don't know what she tells herself to make herself believe that she's happy. And I really don't know what TMF has done to her or told her to make her believe that she is happy in this situation. She must hold a lot of emotions inside given her life's state of affairs like the "man" she married and the falling so, so, so short of once grand life dreams.
I honestly just get that dread in the pit of my stomach when I think about her life and what she must be going through.
