one of the better teachers at my law school will be considered for tenure in the coming months (granted next april i suppose)

now his publication list consists of:

1. 2 articles in low-ranking journals that he wrote before he began his tenure-track position.

2. 1 article in a third-tier law review - I think it got published only because he was invited to a conference and the law review was a conference edition

3. a short book review article that is published in a magazine, not LR.

I would be sad if he got kicked out. I have never heard of this at my school. it seems that the bar is not high.

will the works that he wrote before coming here be considered?

JFC,

I paid tuition for this type of behind-the-scenes bullshit?

What the fuck do those articles have to do with his ability to teach me promissory estoppel?

his ass is gone.

scholarship expectations have increased dramatically in the past 5 years, even at TTTs. yes, it's BS given that most of the scholarship is intellectual masturbation at best. but that's just how it is.

teaching evaluations are almost negligible; they don't help and can only hurt. basically, as long as you don't consistently have a lot of negative reviews, they don't matter at all.

his only hope is if he is URM, politically connected or secured a huge donation for the school.

Greetings,

3+ publications in top journals is the bare minimum nowadays for tenure.

none in top journals.

but i've seen people getting tenure without having published consistently in top LRs.

he's not URM in the hispanic/african american sense. but he is international. so he's safe maybe?

Greetings,

Depends on the rank of the law school, and it's also a bit more elastic than I said.

I have a friend who got tenure in the past 5 years who published once in a YHS-level LR, once in a BU-level, and once in a T50.

they were grandfathered in. as i said, publishing standards/expectations have become much more rigorous in the past 5 years. you won't find new/young tenure-track professors not publishing.

I helped edit a conference edition for my law review. The topic was "complex litigation." Not trial tactics or anything, but the philosophy behind certification as a class. It was basically a bunch of academic incest. They all cited back and forth. A little club of people each citing ten people and then getting cited ten times. Makes them look prestigious when really nobody outside their club cares...at all.

it seems that inadequate publication record correlates with great teaching.

e.g.

how about this?
