Counsel = no breakfast, and not even giving you continental breakfast

Special counsel = possibility for breakfast down the road, probably practices some niche area or hired from government and firm wants people to know they're more important than regular counsels

Of counsel = formerly had breakfast, or could have breakfast but doesn't want to work the hours

And Of Counsel is often a partner who retired due to age limit in agreement or other reasons who could be making a lot of money.

Titles don't mean anything to anyone anymore.

It used to be Associate and Partner.

Now there are any number of iterations and titles. They all mean different things. In some firms, you can incorporate as a PLLC to let the outside know that you're hot shit.

The PLLC (don’t know if I have actually seen a PLLC), PC etc is either for firms that are a general partnership (K&E) or for a tax advantage for partners in low/no income tax states.

You can tell the share partners at K&E because they are PC and the non-share “partners” are not.
