It was obvious that Andy killed his wife in cold blood and then stolidly denied it for the rest of his life. Perhaps he disassociated during the murder, and so it really was someone else who pulled the trigger, but I doubt it. This isn’t explored enough. But it’s obvious even from the title. If Andy was righteous and wrongly convicted there would be no redemption. The Shawshank Redemption occurred because even in the face of his horrible crime and horrible punishment, he was able to rise—in a way like all of Christ’s children—from the dead and have a second shot . . . Against all odds and the laws and will of man. |

Date: June 2nd, 2025 8:50 AM Author: erotic parlour The Warden was falsely pretending to be righteous and in the end he got got. The point of the story is that "salvation lies within." It's not within the Bible though, it's within the characters themselves. The story is very Christian. Andy is wicked and does a wicked deed, but through his experience, he comes to help others in need and take down the wicked Warden, and through all of that he is purified and comes out clean on the other side with a second chance. The story is shares many elements with The Count of Monte Cristo, which is given a wink in the film, when the gang is in the prison library. |
