Since the word CRANK got introduced? I remember back in like 2022 maybe there was constant talk of crank conspiracy theories. Now ever since the last moon landing hoax thread I think everyone is afraid now because the term CRANK has such devastating social connotations

You know what’s another 180 way to use the word CRANK is on really heterodox thought whose intellectual ambitions exceed the amount of interpretive labor anyone would be willing to expend on it. Like someone poasts some wordslop with a bunch of neologisms in it I just call it crank these days.

Consuela was a huge source of crank. Flat Earth, central banks, physical silver... Then he found AI to chat with every day and now he talks Abraxas and the Crucifixion of Opposites. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

I don't think Consuela believes on flat earth, does he? If he did I wouldn't engage with him at all.

I can't remember but he was into way more kookery 5 years ago. He used to poast nutty things all the time and get YSFFM when people disagreed with him. He chilled out a lot. Maybe Abraxas is helping him.

AI is a double edged sword for people like Consuela. Previously no one would engage him enough to respond thoughtfully and deeply to his nonsense. AI is great for disproving objectively disprovable things. No one is going to provide a sourced and non-hostile rebuttal to his BS, but AI will.

I think we'll start seeing a lot of these conspiracy theorists shift toward more esoteric crankery that can't be objectively disproved.

Yeah I have noticed a lot of more “conspirituality”mos proliferating since ai. Also pseudo mathematical systems, like elaborate unified theories of physics, consciousness, history, and society, supported by equations that look rigorous but lack valid derivations or at least if the derivations are legit bexause they are using a newer system like Astra or proof checkers, they are internally coherent but externally being used for bullshit reasons basically freefloating as metaphor. I think it was worse back with unguardrailed systems like gpt 4o, where the new ones have anti-crank guardrails on them, but obviously can’t guarantee that forever, people will probably be able to run gpt 4o like systems completely uncensored locally in a few years

It's a really interesting time to be alive. This is the first time in my life I don't feel like I can reasonably predict what things will be like in 5 years.

Yes, absolutely! "Crank" really does distill a lot into one word. Previously a couple autists like me would occasionally write write thousands of words criticizing a crank, but that never resonates. Ordinary people just ignore like walking past a hobo ranting.

The word also strikes a nerve with cranks, and tempers the output of cranky. They're used to be called stupid, insane, etc. Crank really hits home to what they're insecure about. They're not dumb, and they're not completely nuts, they're basically mid at both. When they're outright dismissed they just chalk that up as confirmation of their genius.

Did you play my Jung Clicker game? It got no traction.

I don't doubt it but the first game was really hooky from the first drop. I have the attention span of a goldfish. It has to hook people right away and the second game I didn't feel this immediate urge to keep playing like the first one. It could be great I'm just too dumb to get it within a couple of seconds.

It's an incremental style game. It's made to he played passively in the background most of the time. It's impossible to get to the ending in less than a couple days. It's like a Tomogochi.

Definitely play until you get the upgrades that allow it to generate resources while your browser isn't opened. I promise that you will enjoy some of the twists if you play for like 5min a day for a week.
